The War on Drugs’ Adam Granduciel Readies New Album ‘A Deeper Understanding’
The War on Drugs have announced their new album, A Deeper Understanding, the follow-up to 2014’s Lost in the Dream. The new record is out August 25 via Secretly Canadian. The band have also shared its first single, “Holding On.”
“Holding On” is a languid, spacey ballad that builds to a euphoric climax. It’s a promising taste of the new album, which Granduciel says is “more expansive” than Lost in the Dream. “I’m interested in making pretty, challenging music that’s uplifting and not depressing,” he said in a statement. “That’s what I want to make with the War on Drugs.”
The War on Drugs will support A Deeper Understanding with a North American tour that kicks off September 12 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 23 at 10 a.m. local time.
